This War

I often wonder if we could have done this war any better, and then I see a movie like this.

One Tree===>

One Tree

A million times I’ve gotten on the freeway and never really paid attention to this beautiful mural until one day I was passing by on my bike and waiting for the traffic to clear and bam, it was all so apparent to me. I can’t explain it and you may not see it until you come visit in person, but when you see what RIGO 23 is saying it is truly amazing.

STAY!!

STAY

If I were to stay in a hotel in San Francisco I don’t know if this would be my first choice but they do have a rather nice and to the point advert on the wall. You would think that you couldn’t miss it but then again all the tall buildings and such you really don’t see it unless your standing right underneath it like I was in this picture or there is another spot that I know of that you can see it from, but you need a slightly better than a point-and-click to see it.

The Mac

If you look closely at this piece you can see that it’s painted on the back of a delivery truck. If I owned a delivery truck in the city I’d pay The Mac to put up anything he wanted on the back of my truck. I’d be honored to be graced with his genius.

Back Alley Art

This is a clean piece I found with a beautiful pile of trash nicely placed at the base as if to frame out the piece. Walking down the alley it’s not the first thing you see. By no means does it stand out but in this picture it looks pretty good. Unfortunately the last five times I’ve returned to this spot the alley has been locked as its located between two business that apparently own the alley.

SFPD guarding the Donuts

SFPD guarding the Donuts

This is a really blurry photo I took while passing a rally. The cops were hanging out at their home away from home, hopeful that leaning against the wall was all they were going to have to do. I didn’t want to take to long framing the picture and have one of the pigs look into the lens and blow the whole shot and my Mickey mouse camera needs more than five seconds to focus.

The Tortured Soul

It’s hard to love this country I live in. A land that embraces torture. This mural of the Abu Ghraib scandal depicts what America has come to stand for, replacing that of the Statue of Liberty. Before the image on the right became etched into every conscious memory, the idea of what America stood for was liberty. Today it's no doubt the tortured soul of Abu Ghraib and the unspeakable atrocities of Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

A message in a bottle

Often I see wheat paste around the city but never is it used for the betterment of the people. I was happy to see that on this day the artist took the opportunity to increase the knowledge of his fellow citizens. This is what you call caring for your fellow man.

A Better Weapon

Also I have a P.O.S. video that directly relates to the above art piece. The song is called Half Cocked Concepts and the particular line that we need to pay close attention to says, “A message in a bottle written in gas and oil. Signed with a rag and a match, here catch.”- P.O.S video here

Mary Joy Scott

Bird Lady

This jewel, hand painted by Mary Joy Scott is ten feet tall by five feet wide with incredible detail. Unfortunately I cut off the top of this painting so you need to go see it yourself. You can find it on the map if you click here.

One of the most lovely ladys in the city.

she is...

I’ve found around a dozen of these beautiful aliens around the city and have found her on other feeds in LA. The piece is done by Amanda Lynn and I’ve yet to find her URL. If any body knows where she lives in cyberspace please let me know. I absolutely love her pieces and would like to see what else she does.

F*&k the world we love FURL!

I got really excited when I first found this piece. I had of course seen it on the album cover but had no idea where it was and to finally see it in person was simply amazing. Undeniably a masterpiece and just as Mac Dre is part of Bay history so is this piece. I have gone back once since this piece posted to my feed and all the dedications you see on the ground have been cleaned save a few.

It’s a keeper!!

Staples

I was going through my pictures tonight and deleting all the photos that didn’t have murals or art in them and I came to this one. And after looking at it realized that it has it all. It’s got the murals in the background (cropped out in the blog post), the hippy with stripped bellbottoms, the hobo asking for beer money and the ugly ass transvestite in the foreground with the purse.

Peace!!

A Podcast

I’ve decided its time to start a podcast. The show will be about travels on public transport in San Francisco mixed with the best music available. I have already started a new blog that hopefully my cousin will help me with and it looks like I will be dedicating a majority of my free time to the show.

The show can be found at Back of the Bus Podcast.com and I hope to release a show on a regular basis.

the feed is http://www.podshow.com/feeds/backofthebus.xml
